A Different View of Istanbul

Thoughts of Istanbul recall familiar imagery; Ottoman architecture, the mosques and bazaars. It is a traditional Middle Eastern city with an abundant historical and cultural heritage and oriental color schemes. However, there is so much more to this Turkish city of 15 million. A minimalist street photography profile on Instagram, Cimkedi, reveals this historic metropolis in an entirely different light, presenting a surprising architectural vision of rich and vibrant hues, thrilling geometric shapes and vivid patterns. The eyes behind the profile belong to Yener Torun, a 32-year-old architect who fell in love with photography as a way to present a new vision of his city. Torun is in constant search of uncustomary exteriors across the suburbs of Istanbul. “…there aren’t many buildings like these in Turkey, so I spend most of my spare time trying to find them – it’s like a treasure hunt.”
